Here’s a useful list of home remedies for headaches. Many of these are ultra-simple and can be done by anyone.

Note – Sometimes headaches are caused by illness and so this page isn’t intended to replace a professional medical evaluation. If a headache is prolonged or severe, please seek medical attention as appropriate.

1. Stay Hydrated

One of the most common causes of headaches is dehydration. Drink plenty of water (filtered or mineral) every day.

2. Apply Peppermint Oil

Massage 1 to 2 drops of peppermint oil (diluted with 1/4tsp of coconut oil) onto your temples and forehead. Alternatively, just gently inhale the aroma from the oil.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix a tablespoon of ACV with water. Drink it.

4. Hot Or Cold Compress

Find a quiet place to lie down. Place the hot or cold compress on your forehead. Relax.

5. Movement

Get up and move outside to get some fresh air. Take a walk and get that blood flowing. Physical activity helps to relieve muscle tension.

6. Ginger Tea

Slice a piece of ginger thinly and add it to a cup of boiling water. Lemon and honey optional 🙂

7. Reduce Chocolate Consumption

The caffeine it contains make it a common trigger for headaches in many people.

8. Increase Intake Of Foods Rich In Vitamin B3

Turkey, tuna, chicken breast, grass fed beef, peanuts, portobello mushrooms, avocado, sunflower seeds, sweet peppers, apricots.

9. Fish Oil

Mix 1 tablespoon of fish oil with a glass of orange juice or take fish oil capsules.

10. Acupressure (30 Seconds)

This is called the hook spot in Chinese medicine. It is widely reported to be the most effective target point for relieving headache and numerous people agree that self-massage of this pressure point brings relief.

There it is! It’s well known that pharmaceutical medications have the possibility of serious side effects and so I tend to see them as a last resort, rather than something to reach for out of habit. In my view, it doesn’t make much sense to make yourself ill while trying to make yourself better. Oh, and they also cost money.

Sometimes headaches are caused by illness and so this page isn’t intended to replace a professional medical evaluation. – but one of the most common causes is simple dehydration. Other signs of dehydration to look for include tiredness, loss of focus and sudden irritability. In fact, I would say try this simple experiment: If you feel in a grumpy mood, drink some water and see what happens. Cheaper than pills, no side effects and might do the job!
