How To Grow Herbs In Jars

Here’s a great video tutorial on how to create a herb garden – using free materials you probably already have! π
You can use mason jars or any other similar jars with a wide neck.
One of the secrets here is to be aware that as a jar is closed at the bottom, with no open drainage, you cannot flood your soil. Hence the addition of sand first, then small stones, and then a couple of inches of soil on top. You will also need to be careful not to over-water. Twice per week is recommended but check regularly – touching the soil will give you the sense of whether it is too dried out or too moist.
You can add any type of decorative label to give your herb jars the final touch.
It will take several weeks from seed to the time your herbs are ready for use.
The beauty of this simple system is that once you get it going, you can put them on a sunny windowsill and then literally just harvest the leaves you want, right when you want them – for perfectly fresh, fragrant, delicious herbs at any time!
