It has been established that no matter how well you wash non-organic vegetables, you will end up eating some of the pesticides that were sprayed on them – because these substances are absorbed by the plants. The video reports on a scientific study [1] performed recently by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute IVL that measured pesticide levels in the human body. After a short period of consuming organic food, pesticide traces in urine dropped dramatically.
Here’s the important point: Although the levels of pesticide found in the human body in the study are recorded as under the recommended safety limit (and therefore “officially” regarded as “not a problem”), there was never any safety testing done on what happens when you have more than one of these chemicals in your system at once. The study noted:
“…The system currently used for risk assessing chemicals is suitable only for one substance at a time. There is, therefore, no approved method for making an overall assessment of the effect of multiple chemicals simultaneously (i.e. combination effects, popularly known as the “cocktail effect”). There is an awareness that this is a major shortcoming.” [1]
It’s been established by research that pesticide residues are found in the main foods of the Western diet, comprised primarily of sugar, corn, soy and wheat.
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, is the most widely used herbicide worldwide. An frightening one billion pounds of glyphosate is sprayed on crops each year, resulting in the average American consuming small amounts of glyphosate on an ongoing basis. Roundup is also used by home gardeners and local authorities on roadsides, in school grounds, and in other public areas.
While the industry insists that Roundup is safe and “minimally toxic” to humans, independent research tells a different story. A report, published in the journal Entropy, [2] states that glyphosate enhances the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins in the environment to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease. Dr. Stephanie Seneff, one of the report’s authors, has been conducting research at MIT for over three decades.
Another report [3] claims that the public has been deliberately misled. It provides evidence that Glyphosate causes birth defects “in experimental animals at concentrations much lower than those used in agricultural spraying.” – yet states that these reports have been deliberately ignored and hushed up.
Unless and until the effects of these poisons has been evaluated over at least one generation of humans, there is absolutely no way that they can realistically declared safe. This highlights the problem with testing for these poisons – how do you know what it is going to do to you in 20 years? If you knew the history of these chemicals, there are countless examples where the substance was banned after many years in use revealed toxicity that was not brought to light by the short term testing originally undertaken to green light the chemical. Natural organic food however is closer to what our bodies were “evolutionarily designed” to eat. Nature is not broken, it does not need fixing. But our understanding of it does.
Because we are bound to get this – you CAN afford to eat organic. Many people have a “knee-jerk” belief that they “cannot afford to eat organic”. This is simply untrue – but making the switch will require changing a few habits. With proper meal planning and education eating organic is not expensive. Buying organic staples and learning to cook instead of buying premade meals can cut costs dramatically. Buy a big bag of organic rice and grow some veggies – there’s a big financial saving right there. Share veggies with your neighbors. You don’t have to buy pre-packaged freezer meals. You can make your own and even freeze your own veg. Another tip is to focus on buying more fruits and veggies that are in season.
