1. Use Coconut Oil: Coconut oil breaks down into ketones that are used by brain cells as fuel. Patients suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease benefit from using coconut oil. [1]

2. Reduce Sugar Intake: Excess sugar intake impairs cognitive skills. Increased fructose intake is regarded as a risk factor for dementia.

3. Vitamin D: People with extremely low blood levels of vitamin D are twice as likely to develop dementia than people with normal vitamin D levels.

4. Insulin Level: Higher insulin levels affect brain health by vascular damage and inflammation of brain cells. It interferes with amyloid- β metabolism in the brain, resulting in their deposition which is related to Alzheimer’s disease pathologies.

5. Fish Oil: Fish oil is rich in EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids that are very vital for brain function. Fish oil is effective for patients suffering from dementia and brain diseases. [2]

6. Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 plays a role in preventing brain atrophy and loss of neurons in the brain. Vitamin B12 deficiency can result in poor brain function or dementia.

7. Folic Acid: Folic acid can improve cognitive function in patients suffering from dementia, memory loss, and Alzheimer’s disease.

8. Avoid Exposure To Mercury And Aluminium: Exposure to certain metals like mercury and aluminum can damage the brain and kidneys. Multiple complications including tremors, vision loss, and memory problems are associated with their intake. [3]

9. Ginkgo Biloba: Ginkgo biloba improves blood circulation in the brain and protects the brain from neuronal damage.

10. Eat Berries: Berries especially blueberries are rich in flavonols and anthocyanins, that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and can reduce and repair cell damage in the brain.

11. Challenge Your Mind: You can challenge your mind by trying mental puzzles (including crosswords and sudoku), playing cards, building vocabulary, and learning new skills.

12. Limit Alcohol Intake: High alcohol intake has negative effects on brain health. Its effects can include blurred vision, slurred speech, and impaired memory.
