Basil is probably one of the easiest to grow today, provided that they get adequate nutrients they require. It is a fast growing bush that can grow as high as 18 inches in height when it matures. Widely used as a seasoning, basil has over 60 varieties now, and each of the varieties differs in appearance and taste.

This herb contains highly potent oils and flavonoids that bring unique health protecting benefits to the human body. Basil is considered as an excellent source of various health nutrients which include Vitamin C, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron. Research shows that when cholesterol is oxidized, it begins to build up along the walls of the arteries which may trigger the occurrence of atherosclerosis, and later results to stroke or heart attack.

Furthermore, the herb’s magnesium content is scientifically proven to be effective in encouraging cardiovascular health. It actually triggers the blood vessels and muscles to relax, thereby resulting to improved blood flow and reduced risk for irregular heart rhythms and other heart conditions.
