Whiteheads are a common skin problem that affects many people – due to too much stress, sleep deprivation, unhealthy eating, poor facial cleansing and other factors. Teenagers are the primary sufferers of whiteheads because of the increased hormone levels in their body. The face is the main area where whiteheads appear, especially on the nose and chin. Too much oil, dirt, and bacteria result in the formation of whiteheads which clog the skin.

While there are various chemical-based skin products that you can purchase from drugstores to get rid of whiteheads, there are also some home remedies that you can try out to remove whiteheads while leaving the skin soft and supple.

1. Lemon Juice

Lemon is rich in components including vitamin C, magnesium, and calcium which make the fruit good for the skin. All you need to do is to rub the lemon skin on your face for a few minutes. You can do this regimen twice a week. Lemon’s high anti-oxidant activity is the reason why it is ideal for whiteheads. [1]

2. Facial Steam

One of the best natural treatments for whiteheads is facial steam. This procedure will open up the skin pores, loosen the buildup of oil and dirt, and moisten your skin. Dermatology clinics often start their acne treatment with exposing facial skin to warm water or steam. [2]

3. Oatmeal Scrub

You can make a good scrub at home by mixing sugar, honey, and oatmeal. The mixed ingredients are massaged on your skin for five to ten minutes. Then, rinse your face with warm water. The scrub can be preceded by facial steam. Oats have been used for centuries as a topical treatment for skin problems. [3]

4. Tomatoes

Use the pulp of a tomato to rub on your face, focusing more on the areas with whiteheads. Wash the area after five minutes. Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C, which is very good for dull skin. Lycopene, a carotene, is also found in tomatoes and offers an antioxidant activity to your skin. [4]

5. Milk

When mixed with lemon juice and salt, milk is applied as a facial wash. Fermented milk was used by a 2010 study to treat patients with acne vulgaris. The milk was found effective in decreasing acne lesion counts in the patients. [5]

6. Egg And Honey Mix

This curious mixture offers two benefits – your skin’s pores become firm due to the egg white, while your skin is moisturized by the honey. Honey is a popular ingredient in cosmetic treatment and is also used in preparing skin moisturizers, facial washes, and hair conditioners. [6]

7. Strawberries

Strawberries contain salicylates, which make the fruit as another effective tool for eliminating whiteheads. The fruit is mashed to make a paste, which is then mixed with honey. The combined paste and honey is used as a facial. Strawberries’ high antioxidant capacity is what provides benefit for whiteheads. [7]

8. Yogurt

Probiotics found in yogurt are found to have anti-inflammatory effects that can aid in the healing activities of skin ailments. [8] Apply the yogurt to your face and neck. Then, wipe it off after 15 minutes. Do this procedure twice a week.

9. Baking Soda

This household item can be used to remove or clean the oil and dirt that is clogging your skin pores. [9] It also possesses antibacterial properties which can aid in dealing with any acne or inflammation on the skin.

10. Honey And Cinnamon

Honey has been used since ancient times as an antibiotic, a property that can help you destroy the microbes that may affect your skin. Cinnamon also has antimicrobial properties that can help you fight off whiteheads. Studies have confirmed the potential of the combination of cinnamon bark extract and honey as a topical treatment for acne. [10]

11. Coriander Leaves

Coriander, aka cilantro, is a herb considered to have many medicinal properties. Its leaves are known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. [11] You can make a paste out of the leaves and use the paste as facial on the areas affected by whiteheads.

12. Aloe Vera And Honey

To take advantage of aloe vera‘s healing properties, mix its gel with honey. The mixture is applied on the face and is washed off after twenty minutes. The aloe gel and honey combo is a useful home remedy to get rid of whiteheads naturally. [12]

13. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar boasts of superb astringent properties which help balance the pH of your skin and prevent the formation of whiteheads by removing excess dirt and oil. The vinegar’s antimicrobial mechanism can aid in preventing whiteheads. [13]
