‘Clean eating’ is an increasingly popular concept in health and wellness circles. It describes the practice of paying attention to what you eat and observing a diet that is as close to nature as possible. It also includes sustainable and ethical eating. Below are a few guidelines to promote a happy and healthy life through clean eating.
What Does Clean Eating Encourage?
The foundation of clean eating is being conscious of your diet and eating habits. Does the food on your plate have nutritional value? For example, it’s advisable to depend on whole foods such as vegetables and fruits for nutrients, drink at least 2 liters of water daily, eat healthy fats, and ensure you consume a combination of complex and lean protein in every sitting.
Clean eating also emphasizes proper eating habits, including proper portion sizes, small but frequent meals, and preparing healthy food in advance to avoid the temptation to buy fast-foods when the hunger kicks in.
What Does Clean Eating Discourage?
According to the concept of clean eating, stay clear of excessive alcohol, sugar-loaded beverages, trans fats, artificial foods, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, additive-loaded foods, and over-processed food substances. And even if you choose whole foods over these food-like substances, don’t super-size your meals – it’s against the noble idea of clean eating.
