A study conducted at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center suggests that blueberries significantly reduce the risk factors for metabolic disorders and cardiovascular illnesses. The fruit actually contains compounds that trigger an increased production of nitric oxide which positively affects blood pressure. Furthermore, it helps in lowering lipid levels and cholesterol which results to improved heart health.

One ultra important thing to be on the look out for: Read the label carefully on muffins, cereals and cakes that are described as containing blueberries, to make sure that they are real and not artificial. I’m serious! Look at the label, and be aware of wording such as “blueberry bits”. If you see this – be aware that “blueberry bits” are a trade name for a concoction of sugars, oils, artificial flavors and food coloring and (get this) don’t actually contain ANY blueberry whatsoever!
