This is a great 6-minute educational video and we had to share. Bees are still dying in masses. Many don’t understand the significance of this – until you realize that one-third of all food humans consume is pollinated by them and would disappear with them if they were wiped out. Millions could starve. The foes bees face are truly horrifying and there is strong evidence linking the die-off to our agricultural practices – namely the use of neonicotinoid insecticides. We need to help our small buzzing friends or we will face extremely unpleasant consequences.
We’ve already covered neonicotinoid insecticides and their effect on bees and birds in another post – however this video is a great introduction to the topic. It’s super important for people to understand this. There is a lot of money at stake and the pesticide manufacturers will do everything they can to keep their poisons legal.
People have been speaking out against the neonicotinoids ever since the French farmers blockaded Paris in the 1990s in order to get media attention on this topic that was being ignored. Yet, still, despite some progress with legislation in Europe, the insecticides are being used on a massive scale.
