Antiseptic: Eucalyptus oil has antiseptic, antifungal, and astringent properties. A study found that eucalyptus essential oil has antimicrobial properties against gram-negative (E.Coli) as well as gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus). [1]

Anti-stress: A study observed the effects of eucalyptus EO on pre-surgery anxiety and found positive effects on anxiety. Eucalyptus contains eucalyptol which possesses anti-stress properties. [2]

Mental Clarity: Inhalation of eucalyptus oil can help with breathing, thus giving a pleasant feeling that results in mental clarity. Researchers believe that eucalyptus oil decreases the activity of the sympathetic nervous system and increases the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system which promotes relaxation. [3]

Mood Enhancer: Eucalyptus oil used in aromatherapy stimulates the brain and is considered uplifting, relaxing, soothing and energizing.

Respiratory Health: Eucalyptus oil may assist in conditions like asthma and sinusitis. The typical method is by inhaling steam containing eucalyptus oil. The oil is antibacterial,may help reduce mucous production and loosen it up as well. Cineole, one of the primary constituents of eucalyptus EO has mucolytic properties in inflammatory airway diseases. A study found that cineole can lead to notable improvements in lung health and reduce dyspnea in asthma patients. [4]

Anti-Inflammatory: A study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of Eucalyptus and found the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF- α. The study observed that the anti-inflammatory properties of eucalyptus oil are due to the presence of gallic acid and phenolic compounds. [5] Another study reported analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of eucalyptus oils. [6]
