Here’s a really useful discovery we made of how to make a natural bleach alternative!
The name ‘bleach’ can actually have more than one meaning: It can be used as a generic name for chemicals that have a bleaching effect, of which there are several… however, it is most commonly used to refer to products predominantly containing sodium hypochlorite as an active ingredient. Household bleach is typically a 3-8% solution of sodium hypochlorite. And did you know that sodium hypochlorite is used (obviously very diluted) for the chlorination of tap water?
Household bleach is a really intense chemical. I personally absolutely detest the smell of “real bleach” – which in a way is a good thing, because it is toxic and caustic. It shouldn’t be taken too lightly – one statistic that I pulled from Wikipedia is that it has been estimated that there are about 3300 accidents needing hospital treatment caused by sodium hypochlorite solutions each year in British homes. [1]
Bleach can also be an ecological hazard, as well as of course potentially dangerous if you have kids or pets.
It is also not an option for some people because they are on a septic system which would be negatively affected by bleach.
The “alternative bleach formula” we found is really simple, requiring just two active ingredients + water. This post appears on Jillee’s blog and she has put it to the test; giving us before and after pics of its stain-removing power when used on laundry.

This alternative solution to bleach is very useful and important. And I will tell you why? Bleach has a small concentration of one of the most human hazardous carcinogenic (causing human cancer) on planet Earth. It is called Dioxin. THis is bad news Thank You for sharing this information. Not sure where you are getting your data, but bleach breaks down into saltwater. Might want to check I to basic chemistry.

They say not to mix bleach and commercial ammonia… also cat urin. It creates a toxic ‘vapor’

Vinegar is also another great cleaning liquid. I’m not sure how well it would go with washing clothes, but it is awesome around the house, especially as a degreaser, coffee pot cleaner, deoderizer/air freshener. It also attracts small bugs and fruit flies if left in a dish.

My Mom accidently mixed bleach and ammonia one night when I was a kid….the whole family woke up in the basement while they aired out the house. Lucky to be alive, all of us!

Not sure where the “dioxin” scare came from, but household bleach, sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), is similar to hydrogen peroxide and table salt. It does contain a very small amount of sodium hydroxide, NaOH, as a stabilizing agent, but this is not a carcinogen by any means.
It is true that bleach should not be blended with ammoniated compounds, as this can liberate ammonium hypochlorite, which is an asphyxiating gas.

First hand experience.lol don’t use bleach to clean out your cat boxes. I did and it created a blue green flame. Awesome as crap so I did it twice.
