Did you know that the condition of hair and skin can be a great indicator for the overall health of the body? It follows naturally from this that one of the best ways to improve the condition of your hair and skin is to improve your health in other ways.

We found a great page from WellnessMama that lists 5 top ways to help hair to grow to its maximum potential. It stands to reason that the better your nutrition, the better the body is able to ‘manufacture’ all the things it needs. 4 of the 5 tips deal with nutrition, the other one deals with ‘external factors’ – in other words, hair and scalp treatments – and lists 2 treatments.

We also have a page listing 10 Herbs For Hair Growth. What’s interesting about these is that there is actually a fair body of scientific research that supports the action of herbs in helping hair in various ways. Some of these are quite interesting and not what you might expect. For example, both stinging nettle and saw palmetto (taken as supplements) are independently reported to prevent the conversion of testosterone hormones into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). According to studies, excessive production of DHT normally triggers hair loss.

Other herbs such as peppermint or rosemary may work by stimulating circulation in the scalp.

Ok, here’s the link to WellnessMama’s original page on 5 ways to improve hair naturally.

I have lost over half of my hair, and my hair has went from healthy, fine and straight to limp, unhealthy, fried. And I do not TOUCH my hair with heat of any kind.

Sunflower girl, are you taking any blood thinners etc. ?
I was losing hair temporarily while taking Xarelto. It took
about 2 months after I stopped taking it before my hair stopped
falling out. Now it’s back to normal but it looked very unhealthy
for awhile. I have very thick, wavy, coarse hair. Hope it stops.

You can lose your hair due to thyroid disease. How are your finger nails? Brittle? Misshapen? Go get it checked. When your hair is not as it should be there is a health issue.
