I like most creatures. But cockroaches, I have a problem with. Even thinking about them gives me a kind of icy chill… and reminds me of a certain day in the summer of 2001… gather closer friends, it’s story time.

My first ever experience with a roach was a little too close up and personal. I had just arrived in San Francisco from the UK and was staying in a friend’s converted warehouse-style apartment. I had never seen a roach before. I decided to take a shower, stripped off, got in the (tiny) shower and closed the shower curtain behind me. And there was this monstrosity in the shower with me….

The (gigantic) roach was half way up the shower curtain, about 6 inches away from certain sensitive areas of my anatomy. That’s WAY too close. Totally against the rules, dude.

I didn’t know if it was going to attack, or start flying around, or what. Needless to say, I kind of freaked out, tore the curtain open and got the heck out of there…

So you can imagine my delight at the recent discovery of an all-natural roach repellant recipe using essential oils! It’s very simple – and should act as a fine deterrent. Also, from my point of view, anything that sidesteps the use of toxic chemicals in the home is a good thing. I’m aiming for zero chemical pesticides (not easy!!), because I simply don’t trust them.

Here is the link to the ‘natural roach repellant formula’, together with much additional beneficial information about keeping them away:

I have had excellent results from Boric acid. I sprinkle it under the refrigerator, sink and stove. It is safe to use around food.

I have a similar experience. I grew up in Wisconsin,USA. I had never seen a roach before either. this was back in 1978-79. I was at my in-laws and moved a pile of news papers on their car port and the ground started moving. I screamed like someone was attacking me and ran in the house. My husband and his brother came running to see what the matter was and i told them and that’s when I found out what a cockroach was. This was in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Yuck.
My next bad bad experience was in 1983 after our only daughter was born. We were back in Las Vegas again living in an apartment. It was in the spring and our bedroom window was open. Our daughters craddle was by the window. I had taken a shower and just walked into the bed room and saw this giant bug on the wall by the craddle and gave out a scream like I was being attacked. My husband came running to see what the matter was and I showed him. He said it was a water bug which is a large roach. I made him get rid of it. I’d never seen one that big before. He said it must of come in the open window. We had no screen on the window. Needless to say i kept that window closed after that. I was glad our daughter was in her crib in the other room rather than her craddle at that time. I too to this day can’t stand the roach family. I’m glad for the non chemical help for getting rid of them as well.
