This is a fantastic all-natural recipe for a healing salve for use on minor skin complaints such as scratches, scrapes, insect bites, dry skin, bee stings, hives. It could be the perfect thing to include in your herbal first aid kit!
One of the things I really like about this recipe is that it’s “old school” – and calls for preparing herb-infused oils as the first stage. There are two ways to make the herb-infused oils – either without heating or with. Without heating is probably the best, as the components are extracted from the herbs without any of the damage that may be sustained by heat; but this takes 4 to 6 weeks. I think it’s worth it though – but you will need to plan ahead. The good thing about these oils is that they will keep for up to a year. Using the heating method (warming the oil in a pan of hot water) takes around 4-6 hours.
Herb-infused oils have been in use since very ancient times. They were known to be used by the ancient Egyptians and people of Biblical times – and were held in high regard for their healing and aromatic qualities. I’ve written much more about herbalism in ancient times on my page about herbals.
